Eye Movement Analysis – A New Frontier

It is said ‘the eyes are the window to the soul’.  There is much truth to that.  The eyes and the movement of the eyes provide an amazing insight to what a person is doing, thinking but importantly what a person is unable to do.  Research indicates that abnormal eye movements are early detections to many neurological disorders and impairments, such as Alzheimers, Parkinsons, Schizophrenia, CTE and Depression.

Further, a variety of eye movements we take for granted on a daily basis are impacted by head injury, even in a mild form.  Within our group we have been working on this implication – the impact of mild trauma to the head to eye movements such as those that occur in contact sports such AFL or NFL football, soccer or boxing.  We appreciate that athletes compete hard, injuries will occur including knocks to the head; however, when it comes the assessment, recovery and determination of when to return to sport it is imperative it is managed in the best possible way.  In our white paper below we discuss the current state and opportunities in the field of concussion analysis and where there is a growing need to catch up with current thinking.
